Alba Adriatica

The Silver Beach: pale sand, crystal-clear water and a seafront lined with palms and oleanders, just a stone’s throw from the Marche border.

The pearl of the Adriatic

A town made for holidays

Alba Adriatica lies at the northern tip of the Abruzzo coast, in the Vibrata Valley, and is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Teramo Riviera. It is best known for its Silver Beach (Spiaggia d’Argento): a wide stretch of very fine, light-coloured sand with a seabed that slopes gently away from the shore, making it ideal for families with young children.

Along roughly three kilometres of coastline you will find fully equipped beach clubs, free public beaches and pine woods that bring shade right down to the sand. Behind the beach, the palm-lined Lungomare Marconi is perfect for strolling, jogging and cycling, while in the evening the town comes alive with bars, market stalls and open-air shows.

A little history

From Tortoreto Stazione to Alba Adriatica

Until the mid-20th century the town was part of Tortoreto. It grew up around the railway station opened in 1863 and was therefore known as Tortoreto Stazione. On 14 July 1956, following a referendum, it became an independent municipality and took the name Alba Adriatica.

In the 1950s, at the suggestion of a forest ranger, the first pine woods were planted on the beach at Villa Fiore: today they are the town’s green lung. Places worth discovering include the Torre della Vibrata, a 16th-century watchtower built against raids from the sea, the parish church of Sant’Eufemia, rebuilt after the Second World War, the War Memorial in Piazza IV Novembre and historic residences such as Villa Flajani, now the town library with its own park, and Villa Chiarugi.

Cycling by the sea

The Corridoio Verde Adriatico

The cycle path runs alongside Lungomare Marconi, where the shoreline used to be, and links Alba Adriatica with its neighbours: Martinsicuro and Villa Rosa to the north, Tortoreto and the rest of the Teramo coast to the south, crossing the Vibrata and Salinello streams.

The route is flat, tree-lined and equipped with benches and drinking fountains: perfect for a family ride, a morning run or getting to the beach without the car. The town also offers e-bike sharing stations as well as bike and rickshaw hire.
